For 35 years the Edmonton & District Labour Council has been holding a community BBQ in the heart of our city to celebrate the contributions of the working class in building the city & communities we hold so dear. This year is no different, come join us as we celebrate the past year and build the relationships that will sustain us for the year ahead.

Most of us believe in fairness. But despite our hard work, workers and our families are struggling to get ahead. We’re being ripped off by our bosses and ripped off at the grocery store, and the cost of a home is through the roof. We deserve better. Working people power Canada’s economy – we can’t let a wealthy few at the top enjoy all the benefits while the rest of us struggle.

We need to tell politicians to make rich corporations pay their fair share in taxes, instead of cutting health care, pensions, EI, and other programs we all depend on. It’s time for workers to come together to demand a better deal.

By working together with unions, workers can push decision-makers to support workers and hold wealthy corporations to account. We can build a better, fairer future where working families thrive. Let’s make it happen, now!

We are holding our annual fall school in person on October 24 & 25, 2026. Please note the early bird registration deadline of September 11th, the FINAL registration deadline of October 2nd and the NO REFUNDS deadline of October 9th. ONLY register on the side panel if you are paying personally or you will be expensing it to your union. IF YOUR UNION IS PAYING please contact them directly about registration proceedures. They can send you a fillable PDF and can register you with us directly ensuring they pay.

Due to registration numbers the EDLC Education Committee has voted to run the following courses ONLY: Advanced Shop Steward, Building Solidarity in Polarizing Times, Introduction to Labour Law & Arbitration, and Workplace Violence Provention.

At this time we will ONLY be holding an IN-PERSON school and will not be offering hybrid education. Because of this please cancel if you are feeling at all unwell and we will do our best to accomodate. We look forward to seeing you all and continuing the hard work we need to do to realize a more equitable world.

The committee met last night and they decided to pull the plug on the Great EDLC Relay for this year.  We had a lot of affiliates agree to host a stop and were well underway to a successful event but unfortunately, there weren’t enough teams put forward from the affiliates to make it worth while. So we decided to cut the losses and postpone for this year but keep the plan for June 26, 2027 to allow affiliates plenty of time to think about the event and prepare their members to attend.

So keep it in mind, talk to your coworkers over the year to make sure it’s the best event possible!
