May Day 2026

May Day is an important opportunity for workers to hear from each other about the battles ahead and to commit to the work that needs to happen in the coming year. Since last May Day, workers in Alberta have defended their rights as workers, as well as waging battles for education and health care and everything needed to live in dignity and security. Around the world extreme violence is being used to try and bring to their knees all who are fighting for freedom, genuine democracy and peace and the right to follow their own independent course. State-organized attacks are taking place against migrant workers, refugees and international students who came to Canada with promises of a bright future and are now being blamed for all the problems of society, while governments fraudulently promote war and militarization as in the best interests of working people, refuse to uphold international law, and cave to the U.S. war of aggression against Iran.

The solutions to the problems we are facing lie with the working class, which produces all the wealth and can open the path to progress of the society, and May Day is an occasion to build on the increasing awareness of the working class that the role of leadership in society has become its own responsibility by directly contesting the claim of the rulers that there is no alternative to exploitation, immiseration and war.

Don’t forget to share widely!
