Demand Action to Restore Workers’ Rights!
On August 23, 2024, the Federal Labour Minister Steven MacKinnon directly interfered with the Charter rights of members of Teamsters Canada Rail Conference by invoking Section 107 of the Canadian Labour Code directing the Canadian Industrial Relations Board to end the work stoppage and impose final binding arbitration, effectively blocking Teamsters Rail from collective bargaining and striking.
For centuries working people gathered together to form unions to fight for their rights at their workplaces. Over a hundred years ago we gave up our rights to strike at any time in order to have our collective bargaining rights enshrined in law. In the past decade all we have seen is our bargaining rights removed by actions of our employers and government.
The Labour Minister’s actions threaten the rights, not only of Teamsters Rail members, but all Federally regulated workers and the core principles of our democracy. Demand action from your MP’s now to sustain the provisions of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and workers rights to a fair bargaining process! We gave them labour peace for the right to bargain collectively, they have taken away our right to collectively bargain…
