Defend Workers! Support Bill C-259!
On January 27, 2026, Heather McPherson, the Member of Parliament for Edmonton Strathcona, tabled Bill C-259, the Fair Representation Act. Real labour unions are democratic and accountable to their members. Only their members. Company unions act only in the interest of the boss and answers exclusively to them. Real labour unions are democratic and accountable to their members. Only their members.
Workers deserve unions that answer to them only and do not only exist to benefit the boss. This legislation bans employer dominated unions and gives workers the power to challenge organizations that do not fight for them. As an example many workers represented by the Christian Labour Association of Canada (CLAC), have said they feel powerless and not represented, and many boards and organizations have agreed.
- Manitoba Labour Board (Sept 2024): Employer working with CLAC broke labour laws by firing a worker organizing with a different union.
- Nova Scotia (2002): Labour board found CLAC did not meet definition of trade union.
- International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) (2011): Suspended CLAC for undermining labour conditions.
This legislation bans company unions and protects workers’ rights. If you agree please send an email to your MP using the form on the side and share this widely to everyone you know. Workers deserve just laws and fair representation and this legislation gets them one step closer.
